The training grounds at Cantonigros
GERONIMO!

Saturday, 5 August

CANTONIGROS, Spain _ Jorge pulled out the parachutes from his bag of training tricks for today's morning session, following Friday's hiking expedition with some agility and resistance drills. Considerably less huffing and puffing was heard than after Tuesday's "beep" test and yesterday's Mount Cabrera climb.

Paul also worked alone with Eric Ciancaglini in a private goalkeeper session at one end of the field, preparing him for the shooting drills later in the morning and Saturday afternoon's scheduled 9-v-9 full-field scrimmage. Aunts Lores and Montserrat were planning to attend the 5 p.m. kickoff, probably with half of the town.

The weather Cantonigros has been tremendous (well, all except for the afternoon with the hail), and the people have been even nicer. Our hosts, Jordi Domenech, his wife Laura, and Laura's sister Anna at the mountain hostel Cabreres, have been extraordinarily kind and friendly -- especially with providing the all-too-addictive cafe con leches. We're going to miss them when we head to Barcelona early Sunday morning.

They'll have to revert to tending to other guests, which we understood two months ago included American actress/model Tara Reid and a small entourage for four days. Paul's gotta time next year's trip better.
